It was fine for the money. The gentleman on duty couldn't have been more pleasant. The area is a little intimidating, but we used to live in Monroe so we knew it was fine. Its not the Ritz, but it served the purpose. It was clean and crisp in the room, the efforts of the owner was obvious. The Continental breakfast was mini, but once again, for the money, it served the purpose. I wouldn't consider it a vacation hotel, but for a night or two, its perfect. The area around is is sufficient for dining, banking, grocery shopping and drugstore. In other words, for the money, it was definatfely the Best Value in Monroe.

    absolutely nothing

carpet was wet and did not have a working key for my room the whole time

The price was good. We got two rooms for my co-worker and myself for one night there due to business the next day. The hotel itself kind of needs a makeover. The facilities are very old and heavily worn, but it is appearant that the staff are trying to do the best they can with what they have. It looks like they are trying to keep it clean and in working order. Also the owner?/or manager, not sure which, is really trying hard to do his best, that is obvious. I know that a remodel would cost more than I can imagine and their prices would have to be raised if they did that, but new carpet alone would make the whole room feel like new. There was an isolated incident involving a domestic dispute a few rooms down from me, and the manager was very diligent in handling it. I went up front to report it and even though it was very early in the morning, he was already passing me in the breezeway to go deal with it. He is doing a very good job.

The only thing is that the room did feel old. I know the hotel is old, but I have stayed in old hotels many times. I know they are doing their best, but as I think about it, it was most likey the carpet that made the room feel that way. The bathroom was good, the AC/heat system was good (looked fairly new), the furniture was ok, the paint was ok, but the carpet was kind of questionable. You really felt the strong need to wear shoes all the time in the room. Maybe the carpet just needs steam cleaning. My room phone didn't work, and my tv remote didn't work, but neither of those things are important to me anyway, and those kinds of things are to be expected anywhere you go.

What suited us most was the fact that our dog was welcomed. The management were most accommodating upon our arrival. The management also allowed us to use the coffee maker to make decaffeinated coffee in the mornings. The south facing room was bright and clean and there was good water pressure in the shower. It was a good value. The continental breakfast was tired and unappealing--bananas were overripe. The friendly staff were most welcoming.

This isn't specific to America Best Value but to "dog fees" in general. I would be nice if the dog fee could be returned. Non shedding dogs don't add to cleaning costs. Upon a quick inspection on departure dog damage could be assessed and fee waived. I think perhaps it is guests who do the most damage!!

Close to our route. Cheap if you just need a bed, fridge, and a tv and nothing else. Desk clerk friendly, informative.

Extremely hard to find. Kept confusing the gps, and Google Maps wasn't any more help. Had to stop and ask for directions. Located on a road that was unmarked at that intersection. Room stank when we got there. Beds, chairs, more comfortable than sleeping/sitting on the floor, but not by much. "Standard Double Room" photos show cushioned living room chair--our "Standard Double Room" only had two very uncomfortable dining chairs. Air conditioner sounded like a tractor. Lighting was so bad that we had to take off the lampshades to see to unpack. So dark that we couldn't really tell how clean it was, but the walls were cracked. Too dark in the bathroom to bathe. Light covers in bathroom looked like they were made before we were born [pre-1965?]. No facial tissue in the sink area, though the holder was there. No lid on the toilet. No coffee maker, no alarm clock, and these were two things we had to have. Fridge was okay, but microwave looked like it had been dropped a few times. Didn't finish unpacking. Rested a while then found another motel about 10 miles away. Couldn't get wi-fi to work, so found 2nd motel in phone- book. Paid 3 times the price for 2nd motel, but it was almost worth it to get away from that place.
